Éamonn an Chnoic

Éamonn an Chnoic refers to Éamonn Ó Riain, who became an outlawed folk hero in the 1700's in Co. Tipperary because he stood up for the locals against foreign landlords. It is rumored that he penned the lyrics of this poem himself for a lover. The poem speaks of his wanderings in the countryside, sheltering for the night in some remote rural home but never for long, because the occupants took a great risk harboring a fugitive. The locals were able to keep him one step ahead of the authorities for years. He was eventually pardoned, but some greedy so-&-so, not knowing that, beheaded him for the bounty when he was sleeping. The bounty was not paid. It has been sung to a variety of tunes, however it has kind of standardized on the beautiful tune in this package. Unclear the precise origin of the tune.
